g24

if you want to know what's going on in the cultural underground in graz - like music, art, or even politics you are in the right place at g24.at!
it's a web community from/in graz and it's based on a discussion board and calendar mainly.
basically the idea was to provide all sorts of information about events in graz... but as it is a community, also the community members are contributors, authors, journalists, reviewer, etc.
the calendar involved is a real pleasure! at a single glance you can check all upcoming events, art exhibitions, concerts, discussion, and so on taking place in and around graz.
and this huge community is participating a lot on this board and eager to keep everything updated.
last year in the beginning of june g24 organized their 5th birthday party, based on open discussions on the board, brainstorming about bands, djs, visuals, etc.... of course it was a 24 hour party - what else ;)
and here is the cake ..... and happy birthday ;)

netlabels
a lot of young, solo-artists especially doing electonic music are releasing their stuff on a netlabel. the advantage of netlabels are on both sides the artist/label and listeners. artists don't have to pay a fortune to get a record, neither does the label. only a few graphic designs like a cover and that's it! and as everthing is on the web the music is accessible all over the world without distributors - the most difficult thing .....
the listener can download the mp3 or whole album for free and enjoy listening!
an
as you might notice, there is not a lot of money to earn with that, so more likley people with an diy attidute are involved in these kind of releasing.
but alot of downloads are always good recommendation.
find one of many examples above:
simon/off is an electronic music artist from graz releasing on plainaudio!
kultur macht mensch!

only a few days ago this poster campaign was started in graz - so you might have already noticed the billboard!
styrian artists, organizers, associations, and art houses got together and want to draw attention to the awkward financial situation for culture and art in styria/austria.
in general a good idea, it just makes me suspicious if the big houses like "grazer oper", "list halle", "la strada" are taking part in these campaigns - because they definitly already get a lot of fundings.

web 3.0

an interesting find during my research!
first i thought it's just a typing mistake or a joke 3.0 what the hell!!!! ?????
BUT ..... seek and you will find!
mr. tim berners-lee, right here in the picture, inventor of the world wide web researching at MIT, takes it further.....
web 3.0 or the semantic web is going to be the next step......
honestly i came across this obscure 'thing' through a real fun event called 'powerpoint karaoke' ...... people are coming to this event, willing to present infront of the rest of the audience some never seen before powerpoint slides - of course their is also alcohol involved ;)
and one of these ppt was titeled web 3.0
and here you can find the slides
more helpful could be watching the interview with tim berners-lee ... the idea is not so difficult to understand, it is about 'clever' web ≈ connecting information according to my interest , like google giving me the exact result for my research.....

at the show

the world wide web is especially helpful for small underground youth cultures, and one of these is the hardcore scene.
while in the early years of hardcore tours have been booked via telephone or writing letters with people who are close to each other, physically, emotionally etc.
today every kid who is interested in hardcore and participating in the scene can join easily through this tight knitted social network!
now it is possible to do a simple fanzine online with some friends and people all over the world would have access. or just like a few kids in austria – you can put your pictures from the show online!
the kids in this case started with little knowledge about photography, but wanted to fetch the moment of action, feelings and emotions in such concerts. and till now they have been grown to excellent photographers, traveling through europe, taking pictures at hardcore shows – nice, isn't it?? ;)
euro 2008

well, its not about art.... as you can guess from the picture it is about soccer!
soccer is right now the most interesting event in austria - not for everyone, but it is just simply everywhere!
we can watch and hear discussions on football and related topics like sex-work, nationalism, hooligans, homophobia etc.
and this blog is covering some of the topic from a rather critical, and cynical point of view. the bloggers put together a collection of video and audio material, wrote posts and did some research_______________also interesing if you are not into football!

eGender: Gill Kirkup: Viewing the elearning landscape through the lens of gender
From: jakob, 1 year ago
Gill Kirkup (Institute of Educational Technology Open University, Milton Keynes):
In Universities we are busy dealing with the impact of elearning tools and pedagogies on our students and our staff and our knowledge domains. We know that elearning can create opportunities; we worry that it also creates barriers. But who benefits and who is disadvantaged is not yet clear. In this new higher education landscape the complexities of gender can be overlooked because our attention is fully occupied with new structures, technologies, practices, markets, and too few resources. Women students, on the other hand, don’t cause us worry; overall they appear to be performing well. However, it is possible to lose the gender equality gains that have been achieved in the last thirty years in the complexities of change. In this lecture I will argue that the new elearning landscape needs to be examined through the lens of gender. I will review what is known about women’s access to, and use of the technologies of elearning, and relate this to what we know about gender and higher education. I will discuss how gender mainstreaming principles can be integrated into good practices in the design and delivery of elearning, to increase the opportunities for all.

'krocha'

well 'krochen' is the brand-new youth phenomenon in austria, to be geographicaly more precise 'wr. neustadt' and the suburbs of vienna, but spreading around. but against the common assumption this penomenon was not born in viennas suburbs, but this culture found a very special apperance in this region. in other european countries this style is known as jumpstyle or hardstyle and first appeared in belgium.
the jumpstyler are my no. 1 media konstruct 2008!
i think it is just amazing how fast this style flooded europe and parts of asia

devices

in contrast to interfaces i will use the term devices for super-cool technics like an iphone/ipod touch, nokia communicator etc... which provides internet access where ever you are, which means you are carrying the web in your pocked (i guess a quote by an apple engineer)
most of these include some calendar applications, e-mail apps and webbrowser and much more, so actually you are able to surfe the net - just like on a laptop - on the bus, in classroom, at a friends place, in a bar or on the toilett, reading news, latest blog entries, check dates or lecture information and even download documents - brave new world!!!
to stop infiltrating your consumers mind .... there could also occure some technical challanges - as you need data for all sorts of operating systems ....
some studies show, that people who are useing this kind of devices are more active in microblogging or blogging anyways....
interfaces

interfaces are a 'super-hero' topic for me ;)
i don't really know how these things work - from a technical perspective and i guess this makes it much more interesting to me.
if i'm talking about interfaces i now mean gadgets to make music with, so this could be a simple touch-pad in all different sorts of apperance, but the more interesting 'instruments' are interfaces responding to light, vibrations and body movements..... like a theremin ... wow!!!
i am working on a relation to our main content - besides technological development blablabla..
just click on the pic and find some damn cool examples!
e_gender & e_education lectures
participants in this project were the academy of fine art in vienna (akademie der bildenden künste) , vienna university of technology (technische uni, wien) and the university of natural resources in vienna (boku wien).
starting point for these lectures are the different dimensions of e-learning, namely:
technology, didactics, design and useability
so you can imagine that this is a rather scientific approach to the topic of e-learning, e-gender and e-education - and also quite callanging, as it employs many different theoretical aspects and brings them together in a spoken statement of 90min .....
unfotunately not all the slides are available online and also the video material shows only the lecturer, so it is even more difficult to keep trak with all this weird assumptions and world constructions and out-of-space realities.
but it is defenitely worth listening and/or looking at these lectures.
so if you have a nerve click on the picture and enjoy!

and here you can find some slide-shows.
cast your art
by subscribing the weekly podcast episodes you will get insights of the work of an artist and his/her interpretation his/her art - which might be the most interesting part anyhow.
get a glimpse of there work just right now!
donaufestival - krems
the 'donaufestival' in krems.......
it started rather small, was constantly growing the last years and probably found its peak two years ago with festival day curated by mike patten (former singer of faith no more).
but the festival is not only about amazing music its about art and all its spectacular, breathtaking versions of contemporary performance, theater, music etc.
i guess this festival is transforming this small, beautiful city of krems in to a magical, shine space - where everything seems possible - at least for the moment.
if you are open for new things, give it a try!!! you'll be fascinated!!!
so here the trailer....
and here some video report on the festival by students of FH krems

if you are still not satisfied read articels here....
or get your ticket next year ;)

mySpace
Music
MySpace profiles for musicians are different from normal profiles in that artists are allowed to upload up to six MP3 songs. The uploader must have rights to use the songs (e.g their own work, permission granted, etc). Unsigned musicians can use MySpace to post and sell music using SNOCAP, which has proven popular among MySpace users. Shortly after MySpace was sold to Rupert Murdoch the owner of Fox news and 20th Century Fox in 2005 [29]they launched their own record label, MySpace Records, in an effort to discover unknown talent currently on MySpace Music. MySpace Music is a section of the website that allows its users to display their songs. It doesn’t matter if the artist is already famous or still looking for a break into the industry; aspiring artists can load their songs onto MySpace and have access to millions of people on a daily basis. Some well known singers such as Lilly Allen and Sean Kingston gained fame through MySpace. The availability of music on this website continues to develop in the foundation of young talent. Over eight million artists have been discovered by MySpace, and many more continue to be discovered daily [30]
